Why this matters

ADR is mandatory under the European Agreement on Dangerous Goods. Driving without it is a serious offence, can void transport insurance, and your employer can lose its transport licence.

How it goes

ADR training is provided by Traficom-approved schools in Finland. Base course is about 3 days (24 hours). Add-on modules exist for tanks, explosives (class 1), and radioactive (class 7). Cost: EUR 400 to EUR 900 depending on modules. Test is administered by Traficom. Certificate valid for 5 years and is recognised across EU.

Good to know

  • Check the job description: not all truck driving requires ADR, only hauling dangerous goods.
  • ADR Base (all classes except 1 and 7) is enough for most fuel and chemical deliveries.
  • A driving licence category C or CE is a prerequisite. Sort that first.
  • Some transport companies will sponsor the course if you commit to 12 months.
