Why this matters

Finnish law (Occupational Safety Act) requires qualified first aiders at most workplaces. Many job postings in healthcare and construction require EA1 before you can start.

How it goes

EA1 is a 16-hour course (usually 2 days) following Finnish Red Cross (SPR) or equivalent curriculum. Covers basic life support, CPR, bleeding control, and common emergencies. Cost: EUR 100 to EUR 180. Valid for 3 years, renewable with a shorter EA-hatake refresher. Available in Finnish, English, Swedish, and Russian at most providers.

Good to know

  • Book via Finnish Red Cross (punainenristi.fi) or approved private providers.
  • If your employer has asked for EA2 (advanced), it builds on EA1, so do EA1 first.
  • Some Kela reimbursement may apply if the employer sponsors the course.
  • A first aid certificate from another EU country might be accepted; ask the employer or SPR.
