HSL – Helsinki public transport

Why this matters

Public transport is the most practical way to get around Finnish cities. A travel card is significantly cheaper than buying single tickets.

How it goes

In the Helsinki metropolitan area, get an HSL card at any HSL service point or through the HSL app. The card costs €5 and can be loaded with a travel season ticket or pay-as-you-go credit. In Tampere, use the Nysse system; in Turku, Föli. Monthly passes offer good value - a Helsinki monthly pass is about €60.

Good to know

  • You can load and manage your HSL card through the HSL app
  • A monthly season ticket is cheaper than buying individual tickets daily
  • Register your card online to recover credit if it is lost
  • Bikes (Citybike in Helsinki) are also available May–October and use the same HSL account
