Finland has strict and detailed recycling rules. Getting it right is expected and fines can apply in some buildings.
Sorting your waste correctly is a normal part of daily life in Finland. It is also environmentally important and taken seriously here.
Finnish buildings typically have separate bins for mixed waste, bio waste (compostable), cardboard, glass, metal, paper, and sometimes plastic. The rules vary slightly by city. Helsinki HSY and other city waste management companies have clear guides in English. Many apartment buildings have a dedicated waste room (jätehuone).
