Why this matters

Your official registration unlocks almost everything else - your henkilötunnus, banking, healthcare access, and Kela benefits.

How it goes

Visit your local DVV office (maistraatti) or register online at dvv.fi. You will need a valid passport or ID, your rental agreement or a confirmation of your accommodation, and your residence permit if you are from outside the EU/EEA. The process is free and usually takes 15–30 minutes in person.

Good to know

  • Book a DVV appointment online in advance - walk-in queues can be long
  • Bring both your passport and rental agreement even if you think you will not need one
  • Registration is free - ignore any third-party services offering to do it for a fee
