Occupational safety card (työturvallisuuskortti)

Required safety training for construction and many industrial workers. Usually done before the Valttikortti.

Why it matters

Many employers will not allow you to start until you have this card. It demonstrates you understand basic site safety.

When to do it

Before starting on a construction site or industrial facility

How it works

One-day course (~8 hours) provided by certified trainers. Test at the end. Available in Finnish, English, Estonian, Russian, and some other languages. Cost: €50-100. Valid for 5 years. Offered by many trainers including Rakennusliitto (construction union), private companies, and some adult education centres.

Practical tips

  • Ask your employer — they may offer free training or reimburse cost
  • If you are unemployed, TE-services may cover the cost
  • Book in your native language when available — easier to pass the test
