Kuopio and Joensuu — different vibes, shared university.
UEF operates two main campuses. Both offer a full student experience, but the focus areas and student culture differ. Your faculty mostly determines which campus you'll be at.
Home of the Faculty of Health Sciences and much of the Faculty of Science, Forestry and Technology (especially natural sciences and applied physics). Kuopio is a mid-sized city in Northern Savonia, known for beautiful lake scenery, the Puijo tower, and Kallavesi lake.
Home of the Philosophical Faculty, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies, and the Forestry programmes. Joensuu is in North Karelia near the Russian border — small, green, and bike-friendly with easy access to Koli National Park and Kolvananuuro.
Health Sciences → Kuopio only. Philosophical (education, theology, humanities, foreign languages) → Joensuu mainly. Social Sciences & Business → Joensuu mainly, some programmes in Kuopio. Science, Forestry & Technology → both campuses depending on programme. Always check the programme page for the exact campus.
