Ylioppilaskunta — member services, events, and student advocacy.
ISYY (Itä-Suomen yliopiston ylioppilaskunta) is the student union for all degree students at UEF. Membership is automatic and paid with the student registration fee. Exchange students can opt in to access the Frank student card and member benefits.
Represents UEF students in university decision-making, organises events, provides services (Frank card, clubs, hobbies, language cafés), runs the ISYY offices in Kuopio and Joensuu, and maintains contact with the national level (SYL).
Automatic for degree students — the fee is collected with semester registration. Exchange students join optionally: fill in the application on isyy.fi and pay the fee to activate your Frank student card.
Your official proof of student status and your key to national and local discounts — Kela-subsidised student meals, VR / Matkahuolto travel, and hundreds of local partner discounts. Activate via the Frank app after joining ISYY.
Vappu celebrations, Association Days, subject-association sitsit, haalarit (student overalls) traditions, and regular gatherings. Both campuses run their own event calendars — check the ISYY event page.
ISYY advocates for students' interests in the university and in public. The Representative Council (edustajisto) is elected by students; the Executive Board (hallitus) runs day-to-day operations with support from teams and working groups.
Häirintäyhdyshenkilöt — confidential contact persons trained to support you if you experience discrimination, harassment, or inappropriate behaviour. You can contact them by email or via the ISYY site.
Vaalit — elect the Representative Council. Held every two years. Any member can run or vote. A great way to get involved in student politics.
